MANSFIELD,MA (XFINITY CENTER), SEP 1-

FIRST DAY OF THE BACK OUTSIDE TOUR

Highlights: Coi Leray Performance, Lil Durk Playing “Fanteo” at the end of his set, Lil Baby’s music is amazing to hear live… worth the price of admission (or seeing in a tropical storm lol).

Low Lights: They didn’t perform any songs off The Voices of the Heroes (Maybe one song.. I think it was “Voice of the Heroes”), Lil Durk’s performance felt a lil rushed, and for the most part, they were too laid back for performers.

Even though Coi Leray gets a lot of hate online, you can’t say that she doesn’t put on a show as a performer. She has her hit singles that had the crowd dancing and singing along as she raps while hitting her choreography!

Then later coming back on stage to loud applause from the crowd to perform most of “No More Parties” with Lil Durk during the middle of his set.

And at the end of the day, her catalog is solid, and there’s still a lot of potential she has to be one of the top-tier artists in the game.

Lil Durk stage commend is something artists can’t learn, it’s either you got it, or you don’t. And Lil Durk has it! He walked on the stage dressed in all white with so many diamonds on that you could see them dancing in the light from the lawn seats.

But it wasn’t the Ice on his neck and wrist that was the most vital element of his stage commend, but rather his voice is so distinctive along with the bars he recited song after song that kept the crowd captivated. (I think that’s what they call him “THE VOICE”).

For the most part, his voice does do most of the work when it comes to his style as a performer; from what I witness, Durk is a laid-back performer whose music is good enough to carry him for the show. Even with that said, he does have his lit moments when he plays “Back in blood,” “Laugh Now Cry Later,” “Hellcats & Trackhawks” and when he paid tribute to King Von by playing “Took her to the O” (Rip King Von).

The best part of his performance for me was the end, where he played Chief Keef “Fanteo” to end the set on a high-energy note. This was an interesting way to end a set with someone else’s song, but it shows how there is love between Sosa and The Voice.

*The crowd chants “Lil Baby,” Stage lights cuts on, Lil Baby pop up from a bed that sits atop of an elevated stage as Drakes “Wants and Needs” instrumental with Drake vocals slowly creeps up to Lil Baby cue in the song*

It was an amazing way for him to start the show hype right out the gate, but the moment was squandered due to some audio issues. It was a bad start but a minor setback for a performance worth every drop of that torrential rainstorm that awaited fans after the show ended.

With Lil Baby’s performance, he had dancers for a few sections, an voiceover for the song “The Bigger Picture,” switched his wardrobe during the show, a quick guest appearance by Joyner Lucas to perform “Ramen & OJ” and his visuals overall were better thought-out for the whole set.

Now it wasn’t anything noteworthy or super creative about the performance. Still, even with taking that an account, it made me focus more on his music which honestly was enough because that’s what got me to buy tickets. Lil Baby is definitely positioned in the right spot as a headlining artist!

TOUR RATE: 7.

It was cool seeing Durk and Baby for the first time, but they are not the most incredible performers on stage. I didn’t leave the venue feeling like I experienced a memorable show or a moment that would live with me for this week, let alone a month from now.

And the most noteworthy thing to me was that they only played two songs off The Voice of the Heroes, which I felt was a big missed opportunity to give The Voice of the Heroes the tour run that it rightfully deserves. It’s a big missed opportunity because it’s Lil Durk’s first #1 billboard charting album and Lil Baby’s 2nd #1 album on the Billboard charts.
